Top 10 Places To Visit In Australia 2023

I’ve lived and worked around Australia all my life and I’m always discovering something great and new, there is so much to see and do here. Here are my top 10 places to visit in Australia in 2023.

1. Sydney

Sydney has such a wonderful sophisticated urban vibe with places like the Sydney Opera House and the Sydney Harbour Bridge set against the spectacular backdrop of the harbour.

Some of the greatest acts from across the world perform at the Sydney Opera House and it’s well worth checking what tickets are available while you are planning your visit.

The Sydney Opera House was designed by Danish architect Jorn Utzon, the result of a global competition to secure an innovative blueprint for a world-class facility. The result was iconic. The unique sail-like shells that provide both roof and wall are not just standing the test of time, they have secured the building a place in history. The Sydney Opera House was designated a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2007.

Today, the Sydney Opera House is open to the public for tours. Why not follow in the footsteps of some of the finest acts the world has ever seen by booking a behind the scenes, guided tour of the Opera House. The tour allows participants to gain an authentic sense of what it’s like for the entertainers and artists as they prepare for their performances and step out onto one of the amazing stages.

2. Daintree National Park

If majestic old-growth tropical rainforests are your scene then the Daintree must be on your to-do list. Located in North Queensland, Australia, visitors may fly into Cairns or Port Douglas before taking to ground transport for a memorable journey.

It’s extraordinary to think that the Daintree rainforest is believed to be more than 100 million years old. A tropical climate and high annual rainfall support a dense, leafy green tree canopy and a lush understorey of tropical plants with extraordinary biodiversity.

Best time to visit. Some say the best time of year to visit the Daintree is May to September when the weather is drier and the daytime temperature is about 26 degrees celcius.

Vehicle safety. Cars suitable for Daintree day trips may be hired at Cairns. Always ask and check local conditions before heading out. Always obtain required permits. Do not tow caravans and trailers on day trips to the Daintree.

Day trips. To see the Daintree at its best, visitors can aim for the Mossman Gorge Centre. This is located 80 kilometres north of Cairns on Johnston Road (the Johnston Road turnoff is found on the Captain Cook Highway – 2 kilometres BEFORE you get to the Mossman township).

The friendly staff at the Mossman Gorge Centre will help visitors connect to a professionally escorted shuttle journey into the Daintree. This two-kilometre adventure drive enables visitors to take an exciting trip under a section of the Daintree’s amazing rainforest canopy. These escorted tours depart every 15 mins from 8am to 6pm. Visitors based at Cairns should allow an entire day for this side trip.

SAFETY WARNINGS FOR DAINTREE REGION – Australia is a great place to visit and the government asks visitors to take precautions regarding health and safety. The government warns the local hazards to human health include crocodiles, poisonous snakes, marine stingers (jellyfish) and the southern cassowary, which is an extremely large bird that may be seen near roads. Always obtain required permits for day trips. Red light – do not swim on isolated beaches. Green light – it is safe to swim on Australian beaches between the yellow and red flags when lifeguards are present. Plan your safe trip to the Daintree.
