Places to eat Gold Coast

August 2021: Places to eat Gold Coast – here’s our wrap of some of the best places to eat on the Goldie. Read on for some of the best recommendations from locals, first-hand reviews.

Tedder Avenue Main Beach

When visiting the Gold Coast you may rely on certain cues from locals. This outstanding cafe and dining scene is a treasure trove of riches and locals very often have good leads to follow about what’s best. The Australia you want to see will be so much more amazing if you choose to include a visit to Tedder Avenue, Main Beach which is a Gold Coast touchstone for amazing casual dining and eateries.

The Local Cafe and Garden Bar

The Local Cafe and Garden Bar. If you are searching for a bright and cheery cafe on the Gold Coast then one of the best places you could ever hope to find is The Local Cafe and Garden Bar on Tedder Avenue. It has an extensive menu and serves multi award-winning, boutique roasted Merlo coffee. On my first visit, I order the scrambled eggs with grain bread and a side of smoked salmon. A mug of cappuccino makes perfect sense when it’s generally early. The coffee arrives swiftly and provides a satisfyingly smooth and warming pick me up on a slightly chilly morning.

The scrambled eggs prove to be a very generous portion, fluffy, golden and piping hot, fresh from the pan. In delicious contrast, the smoked salmon is superbly fresh and spectacularly well chilled. There are two slices of grain bread toast, half a grilled tomato and some super fresh rocket leaves. I note that the service at The Local is swift and friendly and there is the full complement of newspapers for patrons to read.

My second visit to this fine establishment is for takeaway. On this particular day, I was hunting for a breakfast that would set the day up for success. I decided on a Merlo flat white and the Breakfast Burrito šŸŒÆ from The Local’s All Day Breakfast menu. The menu promises a tortilla filled with bacon, scrambled eggs, cheese, fresh spinach with a side of hollandaise and, ā€˜our delicious homemade relishā€™. The coffee arrives first, Merloā€™s carefully craft roasted beans in the right baristaā€™s hands rendered into one of the smoothest cups of coffee I have ever had the pleasure to enjoy anywhere. Ever. It’s pleasing to be able to share such high praise. The breakfast arrives and it seems to me as though it has been freshly cooked to order because it is piping hot. The burrito is wall to wall bacon and scrambled eggs šŸ³ the bacon šŸ„“ slightly crispy in places with the perfect serving of melted cheese. The spinach has been served as a side and I put the fresh leaves to good use, managing the homemade relish which, for my money, is the perfect accompaniment to this venerable breakfast. Did I mention how generous this serve of breakfast is? This is a breakfast of champions, the perfect place to repair to after visiting the beach, that’s for sure. I cannot help but think that my morning has been nicely elevated and I am now ready for anything this day.

The staff at The Local understand lightning, friendly service and they are making it their business to surprise and delight their customers. The steady stream of customers reminds me that good news has a tendency to travel fast.

This cafe is an absolute gem of a find, serving breakfast, lunch and more. The Local Cafe and Garden Bar – well worth shouting about from the mountain tops, recommending to locals and visitors alike. You may wish to find a day to dine in, perhaps try the outdoor seating one day. Licensed.

Main Beach Bakery

Tedder Avenue, Main Beach is home to Main Beach Bakery, a fine establishment offering freshly cut sandwiches and a wide range of bread and fresh sweet treats prepared on the premises. Thereā€™s also an entire wall of icy cold drinks for all types with all sorts of tastes. I have timed my visit to the Main Beach Bakery to coincide with the lull before the lunch crowds. I decide on a fresh cut sandwich, an iced coffee from the drinks wall and a freshly made cupcake for my afternoon tea. It only takes the kitchen staff a few minutes to freshly prepare my sandwich to order and Iā€™m able to pay easily by card. I know this bakery is on the money because while Iā€™m waiting for my order some professional work teams are walking in and placing orders. Professional work teams always seem to know where the best eats are at.

Some Aussie bakeries and cafes seem to take on a legendary status because of the stellar qualities of their short orders, such as sandwiches. Main Beach Bakery is one such legendary place. I unwrap my cheese, cold cuts and salad sandwich to reveal a proper doorstep of a sandwich thatā€™s just brimming with super fresh salad and there are generous serves of both the cold cuts and cheese. To top it all off, the grain bread is fresh this very day. The photo doesnā€™t really do justice to the freshness of this venerable sandwich. The cupcake – perfect with a cup of tea! The people at Main Beach Bakery are custom making top-quality eats to order and offering the highest quality produce to their customers. If this all seems like a nice idea to you, I humbly invite you to try it. Main Beach Bakery, 24 Tedder Avenue, Main Beach. 5am – 3pm daily. 07 5532 5552. Takeaway, no delivery.

Milan On Main

12 August 2021 – Places to eat Gold Coast – Tedder Avenue – Milan on Main – Thereā€™s a warm greeting from the staff who have a perfect table ready, nicely situated in the corner of the restaurant with a view towards the tree-lined streetscape of Tedder Avenue.

I’m in an Italian restaurant at one of the Gold Coastā€™s most popular destinations. I just know the staff will be brimming with great recommendations from the menu.

Today the waiter is recommending a choice between the Saltimbocca and a Linguine with seafood. One of my enduring personal mottos is, “When on the Gold Coast, try the seafood”. After a short wait, a dish appears triumphantly, the heaping contents looking promising as it arrives at the table.

Itā€™s a gloriously generous helping of the linguine, cooked to perfection and thereā€™s a goodly amount of fresh prawns and mixed seafood, freshly sliced chilli, capers and other fresh ingredients that render perfect seafood linguine. Some guests with dietary considerations may wish to consider asking the kitchen whether it’s possible to slightly modify this dish to include simply fish fillet.

Another member of staff soon arrives to ask me how the linguine is. I have no hesitation in spontaneously telling them that it is perfect. At first, I wondered if I would be able to do justice to this dish but my plate is soon empty, save for some prawn tails and a healthy wedge of fresh lemon.

The net result is that I am soon sending compliments to the kitchen and enjoying an invitation from the staff to return and try the saltimbocca. Such friendly people here on the Gold Coast.

Thereā€™s a convivial atmosphere and some of my fellow diners have brought champagne for their table. Other guests are smiling over glasses of wine and beer. Diners are actively invited to take their time as they consider the extensive menu.

These are hallmarks of a restaurant thatā€™s a genuine find, a real treasure, where patrons from all walks of life can enjoy friendly, casual dining as well as great food and friendly service. The scenery at Milan On Main is so very pleasing, the tables adorned with flags of the world and a very stylish passing parade. There’s much to enjoy including the cheerful chirping from rainbow lorikeets, synonymous with the Gold Coast.

I am often partial to a coffee with lunch and on this occasion, Milan brings a flat white to the table that puts the wind in my sails, a strong brew that launches me into the afternoonā€™s activities.

Milan On Main is part of the heart of the Gold Coast and a real find on Tedder Avenue. The owners and hosts, David and Violet, have plenty of reason to smile about this venture.
